On August 15, we will celebrate the feast of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. It is an opportunity to recall and rejoice in the fact that God preserved Mary from sin and from the darkness of the grave.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on Mary as one of us—a human being who already enjoys the glorious future that is ours through the power of Christ’s resurrection.

We hope that the following article will help you to reflect on Mary this month. It was written by Catherine Doherty (1896-1985), a colorful Russian refugee whose legacy of deep prayer and service to the poor lives on in the Madonna House Apostolate.

Consider Mary as she really is. Of course she is to be glorified. She is the Mother of God. It is true that she’s high up, but she’s also very ordinary. I would like to tell of her ordinary life.
