Have you ever noticed how many images the Bible uses to explain spiritual truths? God is described as a loving Father, a fiery warrior, and even a nursing mother.

Jesus is portrayed as a shepherd, the light of the world, living bread, a lamb, a lion, and a cornerstone. And the Holy Spirit shows up as oil, water, wind, and flame. Jesus talked about a sower and seeds and about thieves in the night. He talked about oxen in pits, rocks and stones bursting into praise, and temples being destroyed and rebuilt in three days. It seems that everywhere you look, you find yet another example of the “stuff” of everyday life being used to unpack deep theological realities.

This month, we want to take a look at one of these images—the image of milk and meat—to see how deeply God wants us to take his teachings to heart. If we look at passages like 1 Corinthians 3 and Hebrews 5, we can see that God wants us to…
