I Know the Plans I Have For You

If you own a Nativity scene, go take a look at it. Think about all the people whose lives were changed as a result of Jesus’ con­ception and birth. Joseph and Mary were certainly changed.

Zechariah and Elizabeth were changed. So, too, was their son John— and he was still in his mother’s womb! The Magi, the shepherds, Anna, and Simeon: So many people were touched and changed by the good news of Christmas.

Change is one of the major themes of the Advent season. God gives us this time so that we can examine our lives and ask: “How has the birth of Jesus changed my life? How can his birth change my life this year?” To help us answer both questions, let’s take a look at the way Mary and Joseph accepted God’s new plan for their lives. If we look at the way they said, “yes,” we may learn from them, and so make our “yes” to Jesus even more meaningful.
