How can you tell if God is speaking to you?
How do you discern whether one of the innumerable thoughts racing through your brain might be divinely inspired? As any mother knows from her own ability to pick out her child’s voice from among the din of other voices at the playground, the starting point is communication and familiarity with the person speaking. But for many years, I had no real knowledge of God.
Though raised in a loving home by committed Catholic parents, I fell away from my faith when I moved out on my own. Late Saturday nights out meant sleeping in on Sundays, and God became a low priority. After I married and gave birth to our first child, though, I felt an immense responsibility to give him a solid spiritual foundation. I returned to church and to weekly Mass. Even so, I didn’t bother…

Thank You for sharing this beautiful story. I live south of New Orleans and understand the love you have for the city. Everyday since my conversion I try to walk with Jesus and be His disciple. It is not easy in the world today but I have trust in Jesus that he will get me through any storm that come my way. I just have to step out into the water as Peter did but with a strong faith Jesus will carry me, or walk with me.
thank you for sharing your story ii will help me to reach out our non believers and the fallen away catholics
thanks !!!!!
I enjoyed your testimonial very much ! You are an inspiration to anyone who has lived through home damages from hurricanes. God is so good, huh ?
i am in a similar situation as NAN BALFOUR, i am father to 3 children but we still use artificial contraceptives and face the same guilty feelings that we are not doing GOD’s will, what should i do?
Thank you for sharing your story. I too enjoy waking up earlier than my kids to spend quiet time reflection on the scriptures and listening to what God wants to say to me. It’s my favorite time of the day. Unfortunately, I’ve been overwhelmed with my daily chores and responsibilites and have not been taking the time to spend with God. I miss it. Reading this article has reminded me of how much I miss it and I that I need to make it a point to take the time for Him. It’s actually a treat for me. In response to “xyz592”: I also use to use artifical contraception. I felt so guilty. During a retreat I was attending, I decided that I was sick of it. I dug my hills in and refused to continue using it. I looked into Natural Family Planning classes and my husband and I began using it. It does work. The practioner teaches the couple how to use the woman’s fertility to achieve or avoid pregnancy. We’ve come to realize what a beautiful gift our fertility is. It’s actually brought my husband and I closer. Check with your diocese to see if it’s available in your area.
Thank you sunflowers1108 for your advice, i have heard about the NFP in many discussions and it seems many have adopted this method and it is claimed by many that it is 99% successful, i have spoken with my wife about it, but then she is a bit hesitant as 3 kids are taking all our energy and adopting a new method does not give her (us) the confidence, but as you have adviced i think i must approach my diocese for further guidance, thank you again, and GOD bless you !.
Wow i guess im not alone when it comes to loosing my way from God. After being laid off, i didnt get up early anymore so i could have time alone with God and pray. But being the father of the family, i must get my 2 kids and wife involved in prayer each morning before sending them off to school. My wife had some kind of cancer and needed to get a histerectmy, a few months ago. Its not been easy, but with out God and prayer, i dont think we would be together! Thanks everyone! GOD BLESS!
Thanks for sharing your story with us. My comment is directed to xyz592.The NFP method is safe and comes without any side effects when compared with other methods. It requires total commitment from you and your wife.I am sure that your diocese will be able to help you and put to rest whatever fears that your wife has about changing to NFP. May GOD bless you as you take this step to put things right.
Thank you efi87, we have contacted our nearest diocese and we have decided to adopt the NFP method, and yes just like you said, i will be really needing GOD’S blessing in putting things right.
