God can work wonders through humble hearts.

When people go on a diet, they want results. Those who adopt an exercise program are looking for results. Athletes who compete in a sport also want results: They want to win. As we enter into the desert with Jesus this Lent, we too want results. We want to see God work in our midst. We want to see his glory and experience his transforming power.

What will we see? We will see chains of injustice loosed, both in our personal relationships and in those around us. We will see those who are feeling oppressed set free. Wounds will be healed, hopes restored, and hearts refreshed. We will receive the light of God’s revelation. We will find ourselves becoming more and more fruitful for the kingdom of God. And finally, we will see God’s glory in our lives—and that glory will become more visible both to our friends and our enemies (Isaiah 58:6-12).

What’s even more exciting is that God will do all these things not only for us but for our whole church and for anyone in the world who is needy in any way. So much can happen, especially if we all band together in prayer and fasting. So let’s prepare ourselves and see…
