When I first picked up A Family Journey with Jesus through Lent, I wondered whether it would stand out among the many other books competing for our attention this season.

But there was something unique about this book that did indeed make it stand out. A Family Journey with Jesus through Lent features forty stories from the New Testament, one for each day of Lent. It provides a format for prayer and reflection on Scripture that both children and adults will find absorbing and uplifting.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, with Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, the stories follow the events of Christ’s life, ending with his resurrection on Easter. Loving and personal words from Jesus follow each story, emphasizing the significance of the parable, miracle, or event recounted. Each day’s reading ends with a Scripture verse the family can memorize together and a short closing prayer.
