25 Years of Milestones for The Word Among Us

Now that you have a sense of how we got started and the themes that we believe God has asked us to write about, we want to give you a glimpse into how much God has blessed this magazine over the years. On one level, a timeline such as the one that follows can sound awfully self-congratulating. But our intention in listing these milestones is not to reflect on our own efforts.

On the contrary, we want to give glory to God by marking the way he has blessed this magazine for so long. We are convinced that any success we may have seen over the years has come about because we have tried to keep our eyes focused on Jesus.

So as you take a look at these milestones, keep in mind the very same passage from Scripture that we often recall as we put this magazine together month after month: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1).

1981: The Word Among Us prints its first issue in December, selling it to 1,000 readers.

1982: The Word Among Us begins international distribution in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

1983: Special Advent and Lent editions make their debut.

1985: Circulation reaches 50,000…
