A man went into a department store to buy some perfume for his wife. He was amazed—and more than a little intimidated—by the fact that he found more than forty different scents and brands. It took him nearly an hour to make his final decision. And even then, he wasn’t sure his wife would like it!

This story shows us how precious perfume is—and how popular! It also shows us how much importance someone could find in a simple jar of fragrance. But that’s part of the mystique of perfume: It has great value because of its ability to change how a person is perceived: alluring, dangerous, innocent, provocative. With just the right scent, you can project any of these images. Married couples will also tell you that if a woman wears the same perfume all the time, her husband will begin to identify that scent with his wife. It’s as if the perfume has taken on the woman’s personality.
