Savvy adults know that every minute with young children is an opportunity to communicate values and ideals. They also realize that "teaching moments" don't have to be heavy to be effective. Sometimes, the most powerful lessons slip in unawares
That’s what happened to me whenever my siblings and I visited my grandparents during the Christmas holidays. I never realized until much later that I was receiving wisdom for living and raising a family — I was having too much fun!
Party Time!
The high point of each visit was the ritual of the Christmas party that my grandparents hosted for children who lived at a nearby institution for the mentally and developmentally challenged. Grandma taught arts and crafts there in the early afternoons, and she enjoyed her students’ companionship.
Preparing for the party was an unchanging and beloved routine. The day before, Grandpa would leave work early and treat us all to lunch at the local hamburger place. Dessert was always home-made ice cream, mixed with apples and pears from the fall harvest.

Thank you for sharing your childhood memories and reminding us that we are all called to be imitators of Christ. “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of loe, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:The love Christ showed us in dying on the cross to wash away our sin is inside each and every one of us! We are truly the body of Christ, for we are his hands and feet and by example do we show His unending love to all of His people.
