"Serve me." These were the words I “heard” deep in my heart one evening five years ago as I was walking into my bedroom. Of course, I didn’t really hear them, but they were there loud and clear in my spirit just the same.
So loud and clear, in fact, that they stopped me dead in my tracks. I waited for more, but nothing else came. The only thing I could think was to walk over to my nightstand and pick up my current issue of The Word Among Us. I hadn’t read the day’s mediation because I always read it before going to bed at night.
When I sat down to read, I was stunned. The whole meditation was focused on our call to serve the Lord and his people—just as I had heard. I then read the Mass readings for that day, and they too spoke about service. Amazed, I asked God to tell me what he wanted me to do. I felt that somehow he would let me know. So I prayed and waited.
