In our home, we read the Passion story on Friday evenings during Lent. Each time, every family member is asked to view the events through the eyes of a different player in the drama.

It’s a thought-provoking experience.

Whom do you imagine yourself playing when you think of Christ’s Passion, death, and resurrection? Have you tried to picture yourself in the roles of the various apostles? Can you recall times of temptation when you denied Jesus like Peter? Can you recall a time when your denial or betrayal made you feel so distraught that, like Judas, you believed that Jesus couldn’t forgive you? Can you see yourself in the role of Pontius Pilate, with the power to help someone falsely accused, but deciding to wash your hands of the problem?

These are the questions we ask ourselves as we examine our actions over the past year and consider how they resemble our assigned role for the evening. After everyone has had a turn to share, we read the words of forgiveness that Jesus spoke…
