“A few years back, we were living in a neighborhood that was one of the most upscale in town.Long before December, all?of our neighbors began putting up glitzy decorations, complete with movable characters and?pricey light displays. Each seemed to outdo the other. One night my husband and our two sons, then ages ten and twelve, disappeared into the garage for a couple of hours. The next thing I knew, our front yard was ‘adorned’ with a manger made of rough scrap wood and filled with straw. My daughter joined in, taking some time to select one of her favorite dolls to lie in the manger. (Clearly, not just any ‘baby’ could play the role of Jesus!)
