Kevin and Annette Bentler of Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, Canada, gather with their four young children each evening during Advent to pray.
“Our kids are better behaved during family prayer when they can participate,” says Kevin, and the Advent season provides plenty of opportunity for hands-on activity. Each child takes turns snuffing out the Advent wreath candle and placing an ornament on the family’s “Jesse tree.” Sundays during Advent are special, because there is one more candle to light and more characters to add to their crèche.
“Family” and “prayer” belong together. After all, as the Second Vatican Council taught, our families are the “domestic church.” What better place for children to learn about the beauty of prayer and its fruits than within their family circle of life and love? However, family prayer can tend to evaporate in busy households that are stretched to the limit with work and other activities.

I really appreciate these suggestions on praying as a family. For a while now it has been in my heart to do so; but somehow I always get sidetracked with so much to do or discouraged wondering if Im going about it the right way. I believe after reading this article I will remained focused and stay encouraged as I gather with my two children in prayer-thank you:)
