If you’ve never prayed the Rosary before, this chapter will give you the basics; and, if you’re returning to the Rosary after a long time away, you can use this chapter as a “refresher course.”
Keep in mind, though, that there are no “Rosary police” checking up on you to make sure that you’re doing it “the right way.” In the long run, you may pray the Rosary however you prefer to pray it. The main objective of the Rosary is the same as any method of prayer—to nourish your intimacy with the triune God and with the communion of saints in this world and the next. So whatever serves that purpose is good.
If you want to pray the Rosary in the customary manner, however, there is a traditional way to go about it. The prayers of the Rosary will be provided here, in case you don’t already know them.
Because praying the Rosary involves repetitive prayer, it’s a good idea to have a rosary. If you don’t have a religious goods store in…

I found this to be a wonderful (and overdue) message about praying the rosary. I try to pray the rosary every morning as I get ready for work. Sometimes I feel I don’t concentrate on the prayers as I should, but just taking time away from the TV, radio and computer and thinking about the beauty of each of the rosary mysteries is an act of love for our Lord as well our Blessed Mother.
I used to get all tied upin knots (like my rosaries often do in my pocket) about praying the Rosary just right, meditating “perfectly” on each mystery, etc., so that i ended up getting burned out on it & didn’t pray it for a long time. But a gentle, sweet longing began stirring in my heart for it and an awareness that Mary, being a loving Mother, wasn’t at all concerned about my praying it “just right”. I try to pray it alone each day, but it’s easier for me with a friend, so we try once a week to pray it together. Even though we’re tired, etc. as it’s usually late, afterward I feel a depth of connection to God, Heaven, the saints & the Church that fills my heart with a profound peace, joy & hope. sometimes my mind wanders while we pray it, but now I know that’s not as big a deal as I used to think. :-) And this Rosary with my friend is helping me get better at praying it alone on other days too. When I’m alone, those perfectionism temptations “get in” more. I think we just have to be like little children upon Mary’s lap and just “let go” as we pray it, not worrying about the details, but just enjoying God’s love & hers as we pray.
The Rosary is an incredible meditation/prayer/learning devotion. I pray the Rosary every day and it never fails to give me exactly what I need be the rest, peace, understanding whatever. When I am most stressed by my day the Rosary comforts me tremendously.
I have come to appreciate our Blessed Mother so much in her journey through Our Lord, her Divine Son’s life. And the more I meditate on these mysteries the more I fall in love with Him.
I can’t say enough for this devotion.
In Christ’s love
My favorite way of praying the rosary is using the scriptural format as presented in “An Hour with Jesus” meditation book published by Queenship publishers. There is a scripture passage or a line from some other source to go along with each Hail Mary and a meditation for each mystery. This seems to make the rosary “come alive” each time I pray it.
