With summer’s arrival, we get thinking about how to help our children make good, constructive use of their time away from school. While we’re at it, why not also consider creating home-based summer activities that can draw our children closer to Jesus?

After all, part of our responsibility as parents is to assess their spiritual development and do what we can to help them grow in their relationship with God. The unstructured days of summer open up a sacred space—a chance for our kids to deepen their faith in new and refreshing ways.

What to Do? The first step is to define a goal. Set aside some time to pray about each of your children. Ask the Holy Spirit for insight about what he wants to do in them and for ideas about what summer activities could further his plan. As a couple, take time to pray and discuss your objectives, list possibilities, and set goals.
