It is easy to slip into a negative, complaining frame of mind when we are ill or our plans are frustrated.

Every day we need to make a deliberate choice to accept all that happens to us—especially the things that irritate and test us beyond all bearing—to choose them over and over again, to renew our commitments, to accept and thank God for all he sends us. Once we get into the habit of thanking God for everything, we gain strength and vitality for our souls and discover that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (see Romans 8:38-39).

How important it is constantly to choose everything that happens rather than merely enduring it, grousing about it, or being resigned to it! Our life consists of continual choices. It is up to us to ensure that we choose light and not darkness, life and not death.
