When our children were born, the nurse in the hospital stamped their feet with ink for purposes of identification, security, and medical records. When we took our children home, the hospital gave us complimentary certificates with their footprints as a keepsake. These certificates, complete with the prints of those tiny feet, confirm to us and the whole world: “This child is a member of our family.”
