Chad Perreault is now serving with a Marine unit in Afghanistan, where Catholic chaplains are also in short supply.
Since 2005, Partners in Evangelism has been working to supplement their efforts by bringing The Word Among Us and other good Catholic materials to troops around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is a great help, writes a chaplain in Iraq:
It has now gotten to the point that if I forget to bring The Word Among Us on my convoys, the Marines ask for them. They really treasure them, since we priests are so few and can't get to them every week. I have made every effort to get to each location every two weeks, but even when I get there, some of them will miss because they are on patrol or on post or sleeping after a twelve-hour duty shift. The Word Among Us is all they have!
Thanks to generous readers like you, Partners in Evangelism is reaching more and more service men and women, without ever forgetting our outreach to prison inmates in the United States and Canada. Working with dedicated prison chaplains, Partners now brings 45,000 inmates much-needed words of truth and hope.
By making The Word Among Us available to Catholic men and women in prison and in the military, we hope to encourage ongoing conversion, a deeper relationship with Christ, a growing life of prayer and Scripture reading, and more active participation in the sacraments.
