Did you know that one of the original uses of anointing oil was for sheep? Because they spent so much time in the pastures under the hot sun, sheep were constantly being harassed by insects. It could get so bad that they would butt their heads against rocks to fight them off. So in order to help heal the resulting wounds and protect the sheep’s skin, shepherds would rub oil on the animals’ heads.
