When Mary and Joseph brought the baby Jesus into the Temple to present him to the Lord, they probably didn’t expect to meet a man who would recognize this newborn child as the long-awaited Messiah. Neither did they expect to hear Simeon’s prophecy to Mary that “you yourself a sword will pierce” (Luke 2:35).
