In 2001, it became evident that my oldest son was severely addicted to drugs—and had been for some time. At thirty-eight years old, Greg held a good job and lived in a beautiful home with his wife and their two children, with another child on the way. But when he began staying out for hours after leaving home for short errands, his wife became suspicious. When she confronted him, he admitted to his drug addiction and was soon admitted to a rehabilitation facility.

Naively, I thought this would be the end of my son’s addiction and deceptive lifestyle. I had been warned by other parents of children...
