In Praise of Jesus’ Resurrection : A Scriptural Litany by Angela Burrin

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the garden and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. (John 20:1)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” (John 20:2)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb.... He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed. (John 20:3, 6-8)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels. . . . They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” (John 20:11-13)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. . . . Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni!” (John 20:14, 16)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the dis¬ciples, “I have seen the Lord.” (John 20:17-18)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

AIleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind. . . . All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1-2, 4)

Alleluia! With a joyful heart, I recall your wondrous power, O Lord!
