Saints to Accompany Us through the Week: Selected July Meditations by Fr. Larry Richards by Fr. Larry Richards

Let’s turn our attention to the saints who accompany us through this week as Fr. Larry Richards offers us a selection of Scripture and a brief reflection for each morning and evening in his desk calendar No Bible, No Breakfast; No Bible, No Bed.

July 11

Saint Benedict

“Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” (Matthew 10:8)
Be generous because God is so generous with you! Peace.

God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” (Galatians 4:6, NIV)
Talk to your Dad now—He loves you. Peace.

July 12

[Jesus] began to reproach the towns … since they had not repented. (Matthew 11:20)
DAILY repentance is needed to follow Jesus—so begin again. Pax.

God is our refuge and strength, / an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1, NIV)
He is EVER-PRESENT to you; you are NEVER alone. He is your refuge.

July 13

Saint Henry

“Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” (Matthew 10:32)
Proclaim the lordship of Jesus today!

“Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid.” (Matthew 10:30-31)
He knows you that intimately—why are you afraid? Trust Him!

July 14

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

“Which of these . . . was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:36-37)
Be an instrument of mercy today, and bring Jesus to others.

“How much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11, NRSV)
So ask your Dad for what you need from Him! Pax.

July 15

Saint Bonaventure

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)
The “I” must die to live! Live for Jesus!

“The LORD turn his face toward you / and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:26, NIV)
May you know HIS peace tonight, not the world’s. He is in control—so trust.

July 16

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

[Jesus] began to reproach the towns … since they had not repented. (Matthew 11:20)
DAILY repentance is needed to follow Jesus—so begin again. Pax.

God is our refuge and strength, / an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1, NIV)
He is EVER-PRESENT to you; you are NEVER alone. He is your refuge.

July 17

“Although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.” (Matthew 11:25)
Be childlike in your faith! Pax.

“What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27, NIV)
Do you believe this? Jesus does not lie to you—He can do anything. Peace to you.

July 18

Saint Camillus de Lellis

“Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” (Matthew 11:29)
Learn from Jesus how to love like Him. “Jesus, ‘meek and humble of heart,’ love through me.”

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:4, KJV)
Patience is hard, but hold on—He is here.
