"Love is a decision.” I will never forget seeing those words on the wall at our Engaged Encounter retreat in the winter of 1982. I had concerns about whether or not I loved my fiancé, George, enough to last a lifetime. But when I read those words, I knew I could, because love is an act of the will, not just a feeling. It requires faith. George and I had no idea how our faith would grow over time to see us through an initial period of unrest, followed by deep inner healing, followed by the ultimate challenge of a terminal illness.
